An innovation of Ide family Imperial peacekeepers (and serving as their informal badge of office), the parasol shield is a folding rattan-cloth parasol with thin tin or brass plates hidden in the canopy, which is disguised beneath a layer of patterned silk. Considerably heavier than a typical parasol, a parasol shield is usually opened and stuck into the ground at an angle to provide cover, but it can also be used to protect against arrows. This parasol was invented to protect against bandit ambushes targeting diplomatic caravans.
