Emerald Magistrates
Texto
These judges enforce the law in Imperial lands, in places where the jurisdictions of individual clans are hazy, and anywhere conspiracy against the Emperor may exist. Their leader, the Emerald Champion, is chosen in a ceremonial tournament—a series of duels against the other candidates. While their dōjō is located at the Castle of the Emerald Champion, many Emerald Magistrates first serve as yoriki (aides) to other Emerald Magistrates, and thus get the bulk of their training in the field.
An Emerald Magistrate’s authority is vast in theory but limited in practice. The Great Clans see them as allies of convenience at best and threats at worst. Thus, an Emerald Magistrate who wishes to render justice upon a powerful enemy must be not just wise and skilled, but also subtle and diplomatic.
