For a character who doesn’t fit into samurai society, the lands they hail from are as important to their identity as a clan is to a samurai. Even within Rokugan, the geography and character of the land can shift dramatically as soon as one passes over the next hill or crosses a hungry river. The place where a character has spent many years of their life imparts particular skills and may impress upon them certain inclinations regarding how to approach the world, both within and outside the environment to which the character is accustomed.
