Fox Pipe
Descrição
The common superstition among Fox Clan samurai that one must never discuss secrets when one can smell smoke might be owed to the belief in “pipe foxes,” ethereal spirits said to live within smoking pipes enchanted for this purpose. Such smoking pipes, which appear as ordinary kiseru that incorporate fox carvings on the bowl, are created as the result of a pact between a trickster spirit and a shugenja. Smoking the pipe causes an ethereal fox to rise from the bowl, ready to do the bidding of the smoker. This spirit is sent to spy on others unnoticed, reporting back to the smoker whatever it has heard. Folktales abound of lost fox pipes eventually making their way to market shops, where they are unknowingly purchased and the foxes within accidentally discovered. This is the origin of the Fox Clan colloquialism “To smoke up a fox,” meaning to discover something useful in something believed to be useless.

- Quirk: Smoking from this pipe causes a fox made of smoke to rise from the pipe, ready to spy for the smoker.
- Sealed Invocation: This pipe has Secrets on the Wind (core rulebook, page 194) sealed within it. The invocation may be activated once per game session as an action by smoking the pipe and using Courtesy (Air) instead of Theology (Air) on the check made to activate it.
