Iuchi spiritualists have spent centuries venturing into new lands and are skilled at quickly surveying a spiritual ecosystem they have entered. As the spiritual realms inevitably shape the natural world, the Iuchi have discovered that studying the flora and fauna of a land can teach one a great deal about the spirits that live there as well.

As a downtime activity, you may make a TN 3 Survival (Void) check to learn about local spirits and supernatural entities from the natural world around you.

If you succeed, you learn the nature of the spirits that inhabit the region of the world around you (this effect extends 6 range bands if a specific range is needed). You learn their elemental affinities, any otherworldly realms from which they hail, their preferred offerings, and their general inclinations toward humans. These spirits become aware that someone extended their senses toward them, but not your specific location within the area.

- : Reduce the TN of any checks you make using the Sense approach by 1. This effect persists until the end of the next scene.
- : If you a practitioner of meishōdō (if you are trained in the Iuchi Meishōdō Master School or have completed the Student of Names title, page 135), you learn the true name of one spirit of your choice that you have detected in the area.
