Those who preside over a monastery are sometimes called abbots, though a fair number of monasteries have no firm power structure to begin with. Those that do revere these temple leaders as wise and deeply committed to their faith and traditions. Some temple abbots step down from their positions to avoid attachment to power, while others leave temporarily to travel and seek out new monks or to better seek out Enlightenment. Regardless of whether an abbot is actively tending to a temple, any abbot, current or former, in good standing is well respected in Rokugan.
